99.4 Kg of Qurban Meat Destroyed After Declared Unfit for Consumption

Seeing this case, similar action will be intensified at the slaughterhouses

The East Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency had to destroy around 99.44 kg of qurban meat found unfit for human consumption during surprise inspections at 120 slaughterhouses yesterday.

East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Yuli Absari said, the meat was destroyed by being immersed in a bucket filled with liquid chemicals. Then the meat in the form of offal was buried along with other unfit offal.

According to her, it was done to create safety and comfort for residents who enjoy qurban meat in East Jakarta area.

"Seeing this case, similar action will be intensified at the slaughterhouses," she said, Wednesday (7/21). 

She explained, those 99.44 kg of meat consisted of 1.40 kg of heart, 21.75 kg of lungs, 75.29 kg of liver and 1 kg of spleen. They were destroyed as they contained liver worms, pneumonia and infected or called swelling.

"If we consume them, it will be bad for our health," she stressed.

As for the information, on the first day of Eid al-Adha, she monitored 120 slaughterhouses with 2,721 animals, consisting of 765 cows, 1,741 goats and 215 sheep.
